Public Computer Use Policy
The Harley E. French Library of the Health Sciences (Library) adheres to the guidelines on computer and network usage set forth in Section 1901.2 of the Policies and Procedures of the North Dakota University System (NDUS). The computers and installed software that are available for use in the library and in the open area below the library support the programs of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and College of Nursing (CON).
Priority Use
All computers are available on a priority basis.
- Priority will be given to faculty, staff and students of the SMHS and CON.
- Priority is further based on primary ownership of the computers available.
- Access to biomedical information needs will be considered a priority.
- All e-mail is considered a low priority.
User Verification
Computer access will be verified by U Card.
Software
Only the Library Computer Services staff will install software on library computers.
- License agreement must accompany the software.
- Three working days lead time is required.
- Request must be generated by SMHS or CON faculty or staff.
Acceptable Use
The same principles that guide the use of other library resources apply to the use of electronic resources. The library staff expects patrons to use electronic resources in a responsible manner respecting the rights of others, and in accordance with the NDUS policies and procedures.
Not Acceptable Use
- installing software to the hard drive,
- playing games,
- leaving your work open on a computer,
- degrading or disrupting equipment or system performance,
- vandalizing the data of any other user,
- gaining unauthorized access to resources or entities,
- invading the privacy of individuals,
- violating federal, state, or local laws or regulations,
- engaging in any activity that is offensive or creates an intimidating or hostile environment,
- forwarding e-mail chain letters
